The dicots are the type of angiosperm plants which produce seeds.

There are two cotyledons in the dicot seed.

There is seed coat which provides protection to the seeds from mechanical injury and unfavourable climate.

The seed coat consists of two coats. The inner membrane is tegmen, which is thinner. The outer membrane is testa which is thicker and tougher.

There is a raphe which specifies the embryonal axis.

There is a minute pore which is called as the micropyle.

The hilum is the point of attachment of the seed with the placenta in the fruit.

When the water is absorbed through the micropyle, there is a development of radicle and plumule.

The radicle forms the root and the plumule forms the shoot.

The region between plumule and micropyle is called as epicotyl and the region between the radicle and micropyle is called as hypocotyl
