It is known that ashoka send his eldest son Mahindra and eldest doughter Sanghamittra to sri lanka to spread buddhism . Ashoka had 6 children but he send only those two to sri Lanka because they were childern of Devi the first wife of Ashoka who was buddhist and mahindra and Sanghamittra was the great follower of Buddhism. That's why he send them . they take the branch of tree on which Goutam Buddha sat and spread buddhism . Then they grow tree(which is still in sri lanka) of that branch and sat there and spread Buddhism they were not forced by Ashoka and they too not forced anyone to accept buddism .
