• River plains are densely populated as the topography of the region is suitable for human habitation for example place near river Ganga is densely populated.
• The soil is fertile for cultivation owing to deposits of sediments by rivers.
• People can also get water easily from the river for various purposes.
• On the other hand, mountains are thinly populated because of the harsh climate. The slopes are steep and the soil is lack. These conditions are not favorable for agriculture. We can hardly find people living on the mountains.
