The size of cells in living organisms may be as small as a millionth of a metre or may be as large as a few centimetres. In plants like jute and hemp , the fibre cells are few centimetres long. However , most of the cells are microscopic in size and are not visible to the unaided eye. They need to be enlarged or magnified by a microscope. The smallest cell is a bacterial cell that is about 0.1 to 0.5 micrometre in length. The largest cell measuring 170 × 130ml is the egg of an ostrich. The smallest cell in the human body is the red blood cell. They are about 0.009 millimetre in diameter. A typical cell is about 0.02 to millimetre in diameter.
