Carnot heat engine is a engine which works on the principles of Carnot cycle and it is developed by Nicolas Leonard Sadi Carnot
Explanation:
Principles of Carnot Engine
Cyclic devices likes heat engines follows the Carnot principles, which states that
- When operating between the same two reservoirs, the efficiency of a reversible heat engine is always greater than the efficiency of an irreversible heat engine
- When operating between the same two reservoirs all the heat engines have the same efficiency
Carnot's Theorem
Carnot engine operating between the same reservoirs can be more efficient than any other engine operating between two heat reservoirs
Working
The following are the working of a Carnot heat engine using pv diagram
- Reversible isothermal expansion : In this step the gas is comes inside the engine is allowed to expand and the temperature of the gas does not change during this phase Hence this process is named as isothermal expansion
- Reversible adiabatic or Isentropic expansion : In this phase the the assumption of thermally insulated piston and cylinder is happened and there is they neither gain nor loss weight.
- Reversible isothermal compression: Here the gas is allowed to the cold temperature reservoir and there compression of gas is done
- Isentropic compression: Again the assumption of thermal insulation for piston and cylinder is happened and the removal of cold temperature reservoir. There is a rising of temperature and pressure and removal of heat sink. The gas is further compressed and increasing in an internal energy makes the temperature to rise. Here the entropy remains unchanged.after all this the gas again come to step 1.
