Cockroach being an insect consists of an open circulatory system with blood flowing in blood spaces. The circulatory system in cockroaches consists of blood, heart, sinuses and alary muscles. The blood of cockroaches is colourless and is referred to as hemolymph. The hemolymph contains no haemoglobin and instead it is composed of a fluid plasma in which blood cells are suspended. The blood cells are also known as hemocytes. In cockroaches, the circulating fluid does not flow through the vessels. They come in association with the tissues when flowing in the hemocoel. The plasma of hemolymph constitutes organic compounds, inorganic ions and many enzymes. The plasma is the major tissue type of open circulatory system which is the characteristic of arthropods. The cockroach contains 13 chambered heart, elongated contractile, narrow tube which lies in the thorax, and abdomen.
