The maximum number of electrons that can be filled in the shells can be understood by using the formulae = 2*n^2.

Now, in the question it is asked for M shell which is having the value of n as 3.

As, the value of n= 1,2,3 .. for the other shells such as the K,L,M,N shells.

So, from the values we get to know that the number of electrons in the M shell will be = 2 x (3)^2 = 18 electrons.
