Answer :-

First of all, what is natural selection ?

Ans - Natural selection can be defined as the process through which organisms show changes in genetic traits over several generations.

These changes in the genetic traits of the organisms help them to remain best suited to the environment in which they exist.

Explanation :-

For an instance, let us consider the example of Giraffes :-

  • Giraffes adapted to their environment through genetic changes to the skeletons.

  • Giraffes developed long necks to reach food sources high up in the trees. So members of the giraffe population who didn't develop a long neck died out.

Now, let us consider the example of Human beings :-

  • Human beings have different abilities to digest cow's milk because of the physiological changes.

  • In regions where cattle are not raised domestically, the human population is often "Lactose" (component of milk) intolerant.

  • Human beings who are "Lactose" intolerant, lack the enzymes which help in the breakdown of milk.

  • However, in regions where cattle are raised domestically and their milk is used as a major part of the food supply, the human population as a whole, have the production of milk digestive enzymes in their bodies.
