Design of a solar heater

A typical solar water heater consists of the following parts:

  • Box (B): It is an insulated box made of wood. This box is black and from inside because black surface observe more heat.
  • Water tank: A sheet or plastic tank for supplying cold water to the heater.
  • Storage tank: The storage tank is an insulated tank with aluminium outer cover. This is used for collecting the or hot water.
  • Copper tubes: A system of copper tubes is fitted into the box B. This system consists of large number of narrow copper tubes placed horizontally. The open in of these narrow tube are still into two wider copper side tubes.
  • The whole system of copper tube is fixed on a flat mild steel plate the sheet plate and the copper tubes are also painted black.
  • Glass cover: A glass cover sheet framed in an aluminium frame act as a cover of the box B.
