Answer:

He is expected to climb up and down vertical ladders of at least 5 meters or 16 feet with his wetsuit on.

Explanation-

SOLAS REQUIREMENT FOR DIVING SUIT-

  • An immersion suit of appropriate size, complying with the requirements of the Code, must be provided to each person assigned to the lifeboat crew or assigned party to the marine evacuation system.
  • An immersion suit of adequate size meeting the requirements of this Code shall be provided to each person on board the ship. However, for ships other than bulk carriers, these wetsuits may not be required if the ship is operated in a warm climate where, in the opinion of the Administration, wetsuits are not necessary.
  • If the ship has any watches or work stations which are located remotely from the place where wetsuits are normally stored, including remotely located rescue craft carried in accordance with the regulation of the Code, additional wetsuits of suitable size for the number of persons shall be available at these places , who routinely guard or work at these locations.
  • Immersion suits must be located so that they are easily accessible and their location must be clearly marked. Immersion suits required by this regulation may be used to meet the above requirement.

ADDITIONAL DRESS REQUIREMENTS

The immersion suit must be made of water-resistant materials so that:

  • It can be unpacked and donned without assistance within 2 minutes, taking into account all associated clothing and the lifejacket if the wetsuit is to be worn in conjunction with the lifejacket;
  • Once fully encased in a life jacket, it will not sustain a fire or melt further. shoot for 2 seconds;
  • Covers the entire body except the face. Hands must also be covered unless permanently attached gloves are available;
  • Provisions are provided to minimize or restrict free air in the legs of the suit;
  • There is no unwanted ingress of water into the suit after jumping from a height of at least 4.5m into water. An immersion suit that also meets the requirements for lifejackets may be classified as a lifejacket.
  • An immersion suit that has buoyancy and is intended to be worn without a lifejacket must be equipped with a light and a whistle that meets the requirements for lifejackets. If the wetsuit is to be worn in conjunction with a lifejacket, the lifejacket must be worn over the wetsuit. A person wearing such an immersion suit must be able to put on a life jacket without assistance.

In such a case, the immersion suit will enable the person wearing it

  • climb up and down a vertical ladder of at least 5m,
  • perform normal abandonment duties,
  • jump from a height of at least 4.5m into water without damaging or dislodging the wetsuit or injury,

Therefore, he is expected to climb up and down vertical ladders at least 5 meters or 16 feet with his wetsuit on.
