on petrol and CNG gas, given below.

STATEMENT 2: Due to continuous rise in the petrol price, people are shifting towards CNG whose price

Y= X+ 8.

option C is the correct answer.

• the present price (December 2012) of petrol as y.

• price of petrol in December 2011 is x , x increases by Rs 4 every six months, so after 12 months it will increase by 4*2 = Rs 8. or the price of petrol in terms of x in december 2012 will be X+8.
• hence the equation is Y= X+ 8

2. If x=3,  the value of y will be 11.

it can be calculated as under:

⇒Y= X+ 8

⇒Y= 3 + 8

⇒Y= 11

Option (B) 11 is the correct answer.

3. According to the second statement, taking price of CNG in December 2011 as a and December 2012 as b. the equation so formed will be b = a +3, Option B is the correct answer.

• we have, the price of CNG in December 2011 = a
• price of CNG in December 2012 = b
• as the price of CNG increases at the rate of Rs 3 per liter in a year, after ine year the price of CNG in terms of a will be, a+3.
