With the increase in the fuel prices, the price of consumer products increases because oil

is an essential component of the industry and the manufacturing sector, also petrol and

diesel are used for transportation of goods, thus creating an inflationary pressure. There

are two statements which are based on petrol and CNG gas are given below.

Statement I: Every six months, price of petrol increases at the rate of rupees 4 per litre.

Taking price of petrol in December 2011 as ‘x’ and present price as ‘y’.

Statement II: Due to continuous rise in the petrol price, people are shifting towards

CNG whose price increases at the rate of rupees 3 per litre in a year

So give answer the following questions by reading the above statements.

(i) According to first statement , form a linear equation showing amount spend on petrol

in December 2012.

a) x = y + 8 b) y = x + 8 c) x = y + 4 d) y = x + 4

(ii) If x = 3 , find the value of y from first part.

a) 9 b) 10 c) 11 d) 12

(iii) According to second statement, form a linear equation taking price of CNG in

December 2011 as ‘a’ & ‘b’ in December 2012.a) b = a – 3 b) a = b – 3 c) b = a + 3 d) 2b = a + 3

(iv) If a = 5, find the value of b from above part.

a) 6 b) 7 c) 8 d) 9

(v) If a= 11, then find the value of b

a) 11 b) 12 c) 13 d) 14
