The root cause for the decline of the shellfish industry is because:

  • Shellfish are of great economic importance. these are also used as food.
  • Examples of shellfish are shrimps, lobster, octopus, squid, clams, mussels, oysters, scallops, crabs etc.
  • Eating shellfish is healthy for the body and mind as it provides immunity, healthy for the brain and heart.
  • It also helps in reducing weight.
  • Overfishing practices at a large scale result in the decline of fish.
  • Overfishing has an overall ill effect on whole the ecosystem because the number of species of other kinds increases manyfold as previously they were prey for shellfish.
