As human civilisation is progressing faster and faster, we are producing more and more doctors, engineers, artists, writers, politicians and so on. But, there is a dearth of animal rights activists, especially in a country like ours, where cruelty towards animals and the number of animal rights activists is inversely proportional. The problem in this respect in India is that we are not taught by our elders to develop a love for animals in our childhood; consequently, we do not stand up in their defence, when their rights are violated, and, hence, have no inclination in involving ourselves in a pursuit or pastime that would be in their defence. Even our visits to the zoo is born out of amusement rather than any fondness for these wonderful creations of God.
