As you already know, the Invisible Man was a scientist who was interested in optics. He suddenly "got the idea to be invisible, as he was feeling "guilty" when he killed his dad, as he wanted some money for the research. He also fought with the landlord and finally decided to make himself invisible, as he could not bear the guilt anymore. After many "incidents" he decided to make a formula to get visible, again. Thus he decided to find a place where he could research without any issues. Hence he reached Iping.
