With what purpose do you think that A Face in the dark was written?

I think that the main purpose behind writing A face in the dark is Ruskin Bond's aim to show people that no matter how rational they are,there is always an element of superstition in their mental makeup.

Once he had also given his example to prove this. He had remarked that while he does not believe in ghosts, he sees them all the time- in the woods, in a crowd.

Another reason is that maybe it Bond's attempt to find an outlet for one's loneliness as it one's loneliness and fear that leads him to imagine the presence of ghosts and other supernatural events. So, perhaps this story was written to be read in a way that shows that Oliver being a bachelor is lonely and needs company but all he gets is faceless faces.
