Given : value of the height, h m, in the diagram at which the tennis ball must be hit so that it will just pass over the net and land 6 metres away from the base of the net.

To Find : With what scale factor 0.9 m is to be multiplied to get the value of ‘ h’

Solution:

These are similar triangle

Hence

6 /(6 + 12)  = 0.9/h

=> 6/18  = 0.9/h

=> 1/3 = 0.9/h

=> h = 0.9 x 3

Hence 0.9m must be multiplied with scale factor 3 to get real value of h

=> h = 2.7

Real value of h = 2.7 m
