Given:

The numbers 569 and 965

To find:

Without actual division, obtain the quotient when the difference of the numbers 569 and 965 is divided by (a)11 (b)4

Solution:

From given, we have,

The numbers 569 and 965

965 = 9 × 100 + 6 × 10 + 5

569 = 5 × 100 + 6 × 10 + 9

965 - 569 = (9 × 100 + 6 × 10 + 5) - (5 × 100 + 6 × 10 + 9)

= (9 - 5) × 100 + (6 - 6) × 0 + (5 - 9)

= 4 × 100 + 0 - 4

= 4 (100 - 1)

= 4 (99)

(a) 11

= 4 × 9 × 11

= 36 × 11

When divided by 11, the quotient is 36

(b) 4

= 4 × 9 × 11

= 99 × 4

When divided by 4, the quotient is 99

Therefore, the difference of the numbers 569 and 965 is divided by (a)11 is 36 (b)4 is 99
