You could use the identity, which is much, much easier but it involves calculation of 100 cube and 1 cube.
[tex](a-b)^{3}=a^{3}-b^{3}-3a^{2}b+3ab^{2}
99^{3}=(100-1)^{3}=100^{3}-1^{3}-3*1*100^{2}+3*100*1
=1000000-1-30000+300
=970000+299
=970299
