Sunil Gavaskar may not have become a cricketer if his uncle Narayan Masurkar had not been alert. Sunil Gavaskar had a birthmark near his ear when he was born. This was noticed by his uncle when he saw him for the first time. But when he came to see the baby again he was shocked to see that there was no birthmark. So a search was made and the correct baby was found in the crib next to a fisher woman. If this exchange was not detected Sunil Gavaskar would have grown up in some other family and taken up some other profession.

When Narayan Masurkar (Nankaka) came to see Sunil Gavaskar in the hospital on the day he was born, he noticed a small hole above his left ear lobe. When he came again the next day, he found the hole missing. He raised an alert and the hospital authorities found the baby swapped with that of a fisherwoman. Sunil Gavaskar was placed next to the fisherwoman. If Nankaka had not noticed this hole, no one would have realized the swap and Sunil Gavaskar would have grown up with the fisherwoman learning their trade.
