wo men P & Q of masses M and m(<M) hold a light rope passing over a smooth fixed pulley P.
and Q climb up the rope so that the acceleration of Q upward is double that of P downward.me
tension in the rope is

Answer:

★ Equation for mass "m":

T−mg=m(2a) ...... (1)

★ Equation for mass "M":

Mg−T=Ma ...... (2)

Add equations (1) and (2):

=> T−mg+Mg−T=a(M+2m)

=> g(M−m)=a(M+2m)

=> a=(M−m/M+2m)g

Substitute T value in equation (2):

Mg−T=Ma

T=M(g−a)

=M[g−(M−m/M+2m)g]

=Mg(1−M−m/M+2m)

=Mg(M+2m−M+m/M+2m)

=Mg(3m/M+2m)

=3 Mmg/M+2m
