Wo trains 200 meter and 150 meter long are running on parallel track at the rate of 40 kmph and 45 kmph respectively. In how much time will they cross each other, if they are running in the same direction?

Answer:

total distance to be covered =

length of both trains=

(200+150)m = 350 m

relative speed =

(45-40) kmph =

5 kmph=

5*5/18m/sec=

25/18m/sec

As time= distance/speed

time=350*18/25

= 252sec or 4 min 12 sec

Time taken by longer train to cross to slower train is given by:

a+b/v-u,where a andb are lengths of the train and v and u are speed of trains.

T=0.2+.15/45-40.=0.7

Distance travelled by longer train after crossing slower train =speed *time.

D=relative speed(45-40)*0.7

D=5*0.7.

D=3.5kms(3500m).
