Wolves have genes that give them a very powerful sense of smell much more powerful than humans , this is an adaptation by natural selection . The wolves that reproduced more offspring with a better sense of smell thereby increasing the frequency of those genes in the population that survived longer. Give an example of adaptation in other oranisms that may have resulted from variations that were favored by natural selection

ADAPTIBILITY DUE TO NATURAL SELECTION:

  • You have rightfully said that sense perception in wolves provide them with an advantage. This adaptation has been selected by nature and hence wolve is able to survive. "SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST".

ANOTHER CLASSIC EXAMPLE:

  • Initially, during origin of gymnosperms and angisperms, the trees were extremely tall. So, the herbivores had to feed from surface shrubs and plants (which were shorter).

  • However, girrafes showed an adaptation and they grew taller and taller until they could reach the tall trees.

  • Hence , they could now feed from the tall trees (which other animals couldn't reach), hence their competition was reduced.

  • Hence, nature selected this adaptation and they survived.
