During the Salt March, thousands of women came out of their homes to listen to the speeches of Gandhi. women participated in protest marches, manufactured salt, and picketed foreign cloth and liquor shops. Many went to jail.

Women also participated in large scale in the Civil
Disobedience movement during the salt march by
Gandhiji. They belonged to the high caste families
from the urban areas and rich peasant households
from the rural areas. For them it was a sacred duty to
serve the nation. But the Congress was not willing to
give them any position of authority in the organisation
and that’s why Gandhiji said that women should look after the domestic chores and be good mothers and
wives.
