Let the length of shorter part be 3x

and longer part be 5x

According to the question

5x =3x +16

5x-3x = 16

2x = 16

x = 8

Length of shorter part = 3x = 3×8= 24 cm

Length of longer part = 5x = 5×8= 40 cm

Length of original rope = (24+40 ) cm = 64cm
