The Prime Minister is the person who is leader of majority party or the coalition of party that commands majority in Lok Sabha.The Prime Minister is the Head of the Government.The PM is the most powerful in the Cabinet.He is elected directly by people of the country.
1)The PM chairs the Cabinet meetings.
2)He coordinates the work of different Departments.
3) His decisions are final in case of any disagreement arises between departments.
4) He exercises general supervision of different ministries.
5) All ministers work under his leadership. The PM distributes and redistributes work to the ministers.
6) He has the power to dismiss ministers. When the PM quits , entire ministry quits.
The President is the head of the state. In Indian political system the Head of State exercises only nominal powers. The President of India is like Queen of Britain whose functions to large extent are ceremonial.She is just a nominal executive elected by MPs and MLAs.
1) The President supervises the overall functioning of all political institutions in the country so that they operate in harmony to achieve objectives of the State.
2) She appoints the Chief Justice of India, the Judged of Supreme Court, and the High Courts of the states, The Governor of States, The Election commissioner, ambassadors,etc.
3)All the international treaties and agreements are made in the name of President.
4) She is the supreme commander of defense forces of India.
5) She can delay the passing of bill by sending it back to parliament for reconsideration.
