But how ?

  • First of all, work done by gravitational force is not path dependent. It only depends upon the position of the object with respect to the reference (i.e. displacement).

  • So, irrespective of the path followed by the object, the work done by gravity will be same in all cases provided that the initial and final position are constant for all cases.

  • In other words, when the initial and final position remain constant, the displacement also becomes constant irrespective of the path followed (whether slope, stairs or lift).
