When the displacement of the body is opposite to the direction of the applied force then the Work done on that body is said to be negetive.

eg:- when we lift an object away from the Earth at that time gravitational force also acted on it and if we concider the gravitational force then the displacement is opposite to the gravitational force here the workdone is said to be negetive
