Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is a process by which plants organisms take simple substances from the environment such as sunlight, air, water etc...and then prepare their food for them to consume.

At first, the plants take in light energy from the sunlight through small openings called stomata, these are found mostly in the lower parts of the leaves, but they can also be found in the stems, roots and leaves of the plants.

Then this light energy gets converted into chemical energy so that the plants can use it prepare food.

The next step is where the reduction of Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) occurs. The CO₂ which is absorbed from the air gets reduced to Carbohydrate or Glucose which is used for the plant's energy.

The end product of phtosynthesis are Glucose, Water and Oxygen

Oxygen is released into the air after photosynthesis

Chemical Formula of Photosynthesis:

6CO₂ + 12H₂0 ⇒ C₆H₁₂0₆ + 6O₂ + 6H₂0

Additional Information

C₆H₁₂0₆ = Glucose

H₂0 = Water

CO₂ = Carbon Dioxide
