Answer:

Basically, most of the electric motors work on the electromagnetic induction principle, however, there are different types of motors which uses other electromechanical methods namely piezoelectric effect and electrostatic force.

The basic working principle of electromagnetic motors can depend on the mechanical energy that works on the conductor using the flow of electric current & it is placed within the magnetic field. The mechanical force direction is perpendicular toward the magnetic field and the conductor and the magnetic field.

Answer:

Electric motor :

Working :

  • When a current is allowed to flow through the ABCD the coil starts rotating anti-clockwise
  • this happens because a downward force acts on the length AB and at the same time, an upward force acts on length CD.
  • as a result ,the coil rotates anti -clock wise
  • current in the length AB flow from A to B and the magnetic field acts from left to right, normal to length AB.
  • similarly, at an upward force acts on the length CD .
  • these two force causes the coil yo rotate anti - clock wise.
  • when the coil completes half rotation, the position of AB and CD interchanges.
  • the half ring P comes in contact with brush Y and half ring Q comes in contact with brush X.
  • therefore, the direction of current in the coil. ABCD gets reversed.
  • New the current flows through the coil on the direction DCBA .
  • the direction of current through coil ABCD reverse after every half rotation.
  • As a result, the coil rotates in the same direction.
  • the split rings help to reverse the direction of current in the circuit.
