We take in oxygen and give out carbon-dioxide only because of lungs.lungs help us in to take pure air . carbon-dioxide is a waste material in our body.if it remains in our body then it will harm us adversely,it could also cause death.thats why lungs help us in expelling out carbon-dioxide .so we can say that lungs are also working as excretory organ.
