Worksheet 19
Read the passage.
Once upon a time, when Gautama Buddha was travelling along the Kosala region, he
was alerted by the people not to go through the dense forest. It was believed that
the den of a cruel robber chief was located in the forest. His name was Angulimala.
No one could capture the robber and he continued to commit crimes. He was
unpunished.
Gautama Buddha was not afraid of the robber, knowing well that the robber had killed
many people. Angulimala got very angry that the Buddha did not fear him. He decided
to kill the Buddha.
When he saw the calmness of the Buddha and heard his kind words, Angulimala
hesitated to kill him. He knelt before the Buddha. He told the Buddha that he had
committed sins and asked for forgiveness.
People were amazed and could not believe this. They had heard about Angulimala's
cruel behaviour.
Later, Angulimala became a monk and was widely respected by people.
