1) The three girls captured in the photograph were the mother of the poet who was not married then, and her two cousins: Betty and Dolly.

2) The three girls stood and smile as their uncle was holding a camera to capture their picture.

3) Here, the phrase "terribly transient" in the last line of the extract means that human life is not permanent but temporary.

4) The poet refers to her mother's face here.

5)In these lines, the poet says that the sea has changed little over the years while the poet's mother has been dead for years now.
