HIV or Aids virus can spread through the use of unclean injection needles or repeat use of these. This is the reason why sterilised, disposable single-use syringes are used today. After one patient is injected, the syringe is thrown away.
Unscreened blood, especially from blood banks, also may cause the transmission of the virus. Therefore, all blood stored in blood banks are tested for this virus.
HIV can also spread from mother to baby during pregnancy or when the baby is breast-fed by the mother.
