Due to deforestation and expansion of cities, the wild animals like Tiger and Elephant are becoming extinct.

In 2018, it is estimated that there are only around 3500 tigers in the world. To conserve tiger population, World Tiger Day is celebrated on 29th July.

These days, elephant population has drastically reduced because of ivory trading. In order to create awareness among the public to protect and conserve elephants, Global Elephant Day is celebrated on 12th August.

Biodiversity must be conserved in order to maintain a healthy ecosystem and to protect the species from extinction.

The purpose of world Tiger’s day is to raise 'awareness' about conserving and protecting the natural habitat of Tigers. 'World elephant day' is celebrated to raise awareness about the unfortunate conditions of the 'African' and 'Asian Elephants' and to improve the management and care of the wild elephants.

EXPLANATION:

We should conserve biodiversity so as to maintain the balance of ecosystem. Biodiversity consists of all the "living organisms" and the ecosystem of which they are a part of.

Food crops, cotton, jute, aquatic animals, birds, pollination by bees, human all are inter-related with each other and one cannot survive without other. That is why we need to maintain the biodiversity.
