defoliated plant will not respond to the photoperiodic cycle. It is hypothesised that the hormonal substance responsible for flowering is formed in the leaves, subsequently migrating to the shoot apices and modifying them into flowering apices

A defoliated plant will not respond to photoperiodic cycle, because the leaves in the plant are the main source for the photoperiodic effect of the leaves.

Explanation:

  • A defoliated plant is a plant from which the leaves are removed.
  • In the case of a plant the leaves are the major parts because that receive sunlight and prepare food for plants through the energy gained through this sunlight.
  • When this part is removed a plant will not respond to photoperiodic behaviour.
