Heathcliff joins the family as a ragged orphan, since he has a sad origin and is prone to obscure moods. He gets neglected throughout his childhood and hes also degraded by Hindley.

He sometimes gets fits of rage as well. Because Cathrine marries someone he spends the rest of his life in anger. He even ends up killing himself. So dark, yes hes dark due to his mood and nature.

But not necessarily evil because he was a troubled person due to his life and what happened to him.

It is an undisputed fact that Heathcliff is dark in nature.

He comes to the family as a tattered orphan and is always doubtful.

He comes from the sad origin and he is neglected and dishonored by Hindley throughout his childhood.

He is always in dark mood and becomes angry at times.

However, I must say he is not evil.
