A few is a quantifier used with plural countable nouns . Without the article "a", few emphazises a small number of something.

Adding the article removes the emphasia- a few means some.

The same rule applies to little,which is used with singulat uncountable nouns.

While many people would agree that "a few" means three or more the actual dictionary definition of "a few" is, "not many but more tha one" .

so,"a few" cannott be oneb, but it can be as low as two
