We drank coffee in the morning. Both the above statements can be expressed in simple past tense without the adverb Now. ... The present perfect tense is used immediately after action is just over.

Explanation:

Question:-

Would you like a coffee ? (Identify the type of tense)

Answer:-

The tense inthe above sentence is - Conditional Tense

Reason:-

Why conditional tense is correct ?

:- I can write Simple past tense instead of conditional tense, but I hadn't written past simple tense because tense is a type of unique verb which describes a fact or a conversation between persons.

However, conditional tense is a different category of tense which is only used to predict something,a condition which can happen in future or we wish it to happen (only non-true sentences).

So,the above sentence isn't stating any fact but only an assumption of a person that what drink would the second person like. That is the reason of putting conditional tense as an answer instead of simple past or any other tense.

Hope it helps you...
