osmosis is the transfer of "water " from the area of of higher concentration to the area of lower concentration(of water) when both areas are separated by semipermeable membrane . whereas diffusion is transfer of any substance(solid, liquid or gas) from the area of of higher concentration to  the area of lower concentration(of that substance) and in diffusion there is no separation in between.
