The greatest 4 digit number is 9999 .

It can expressed as a product of primes in the following way :

9999 ÷ 3 = 3333

3333 ÷ 3 = 1111

1111 ÷ 11 = 101

101 ÷ 101 = 1 ( 101 is being directly multiplied by its self because it is a prime number and doesn't has any other factors other than 1 and itself i.e. 101 )

Therefore the greatest 4 digit number , which is 9999 can be expressed as a product of primes as = 3 × 3 × 11 × 101 .
