In mature mRNA, the translated regions are divided up into subunits of 3 bases each, called codons. These codons code for an amino acid and match a particular anticodon on a tRNA molecule. The translated regions occurs in the centre of the mRNA. The untranslated regions occur at the 5’ and 3’ ends of the mRNA. At the 5’ end there is a guanosine molecule, which prevents degradation of the mRNA molecule after transcription and assists in the binding of the ribosome. The poly A tail at the 3’ end also prevents degradation of the mRNA molecular and helps mediate termination of transcription.
