Asaf-ud-Daula, Nawab of Awadh, constructed the Bara Imambara, sometimes referred to as Asfi Imambara, an imambara complex in Lucknow, India, in 1784. Bara is Arabic for large. After the Nizamat Imambara, this imambara is the second-largest in size.

Structural makeup :

Along with the Bowli step well with running water, the structure also houses the sizable Asfi mosque, the Bhul-bhulaiya (the labyrinth), and more. The main hall is accessible by two magnificent gates. According to legend, there are 1024 ways to get to the terrace but only two ways to leave—through the first gate or the exit gate. It is an unintentional structure.

Alleviative action

One of Asaf-ud-goals Daula's in beginning the construction of Bara Imambara in 1780, the year of a catastrophic famine, was to give locals in the area employment for over a decade while the hunger persisted. It is stated that in the past, while noblemen and other members of the aristocracy toiled at night to tear down whatever that had been built during the day, regular people laboured during the day to build the structure.
