ANSWER:

A fair is a gathering of people for a range of entertainment/commercial activities.

EXPLANATION:

• A funfair is a medium or small sized travelling fair mainly comprising amusement rides.

• In certain places these funfairs are known as carnivals and India they are known as ‘melas.’

• A fun fair is usually a conglomeration of fun game stalls and amusement rides

• Simple fairs have various stalls that are at times privately owned. Most stalls have games of strength or games of skill.

• The stalls are multipurpose, where one may sell candyfloss, the other mayhave a tarot reader, and yet another may have a dart game.

• The giant wheel and merry-go-round, train rides, and tea-cup rides are perhaps the most usual rides seen at melas.

• There are also stalls for attaching rubber ducks from a water holder, the hoopla wherein a ring is required to be thrown to fit around one of the many objects placed on a table, the ball-in-the-bucket games in which the bucket is set at an angle such way that it would surely spring back the ball out, air rifles and archery with targets varying from balloons, playing cards to bulls eyes.

• In some nations the rides in these fairs are run manually. However, in several places, the fairs have many other thrill rides, the most familiar and general being the musical carousels, the Top Spin, the Toratora that are not manually run.

• Fairs may also feature smaller roller coasters to lure the pre-teens and teenagers. Roller coasters usually feature sharp curves, steep drops and at times loop at surprising turns.

• Funfairs or melas are more family-oriented and comprise many children’s rides particularly intended for children from the age group of 2-10 yrs.
