Ratha Yatra is a major Hindu festival associated with Lord Jagannath (avatar of Lord Vishnu) held at Puri in India during the months of June or July.
The Puri Rath Yatra is world famous and attracts more then one million pilgrims every year, not only from India but also from the different parts of the world. 
This festival is a symbol of equality and integration.
Rath Yatra in other words the Chariot Festival is the only day when devotees who are not allowed into the temple can get a chance to see the deities. 
Every year the wooden temples like chariots are constructed newly. 
The idols of these three deities are also made of wood and they are religiously replaced by new ones in every 12 years.

1. Rath yatra is also known as the Car festival and is celebrated all over the world.

2. The origin of the festival is from Puri, Odisha and it marks the travel of the three lords of Puri Shrimandir Temple in a chariot to visit their maternal aunt’s home.

3. The chariots are made of woods and are built starting from Akshay Tritiya.

4. The three lords, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra are brought from their seats and taken upon the chariots.

5. Lord Balabhadra’s Chariot is called Taladhwaja and is clad in green and red clothes.

6. Goddess Subhadra’s Chariot is called Darpadalana and is clad in black and red clothes.

7. Lord Jagannath’s Chariot is called Nandighosh and is clad in yellow and red clothes.

8. This is also the sequence in which the chariots proceed and arrive at their destination.
