MOTHER TERESA

The birth date of Mother Teresa is 26 August in the year 1910. Her real name was 'Mary Teresa Bojaxhiu'.

She was devoted to God. She started up a charity called 'The Charity Missionaries'. Through this Mother Teresa loved and cared the needy and the poor people.

She recieved many awards for his precious works. In the year1971, she was awarded with the Pope John XXIII Peace Award. Also in the year 1972, she was awarded with the Nehru Prize. In 1979, Balzan Prize was awarded to her. She also recieved Magsaysay as well as Templeton awards. She left the world awa on 5th September 1997.

MOTHER TERESA

Mother Teresa was born on 26 August 1910. Her real name was Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu. She was an Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic Nun.

She is well-known for her devoted work for poor and needy people. She provided education to the poor children. She built up Missionaries of Charity in 1948 which helped people suffering from TB, HIV/AIDS and Leprosy. It also ran clinics, dispensaries, orphanages etc. It was very difficult for her to continue with the Missionaries of Charity. She faced a lot of hardships but she was dedicated and always had an aim to help the poorest of the poor. Her dedication now has such a positive impact on other's lives. The Missionaries of Charity has spread globally like in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America etc.

She has also received awards for her humanitarian efforts like :-

  • Pope John XXIII Peace Prize - 1971
  • Nehru Prize for her promotion of international peace and understanding - 1972
  • Balzan Prize - 1978
  • Templeton Prize - 1973
  • Padma Shri - 1962
  • Bharat Ratna - 1980

The great lady bid her farewell to the world on 5th September 1997 at the age of 87, in Calcutta (Present day Kolkata), West Bengal, India.
