The World Maths Day and The international Mathematics Day are not the same. The world maths day is an online mathematics competition that is held internationally. On the other side, the former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh announced 22nd December as the National Mathematics Day to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan.

The World Maths Day was first celebrated on 14th March 2007. Later, in the year 2010, World Maths Day won A Guinness World Record, for holding the longest online Mathematics competition. UNICEF became the charity partner of The World’s Maths Day.

In the year 2007, when the first World maths day was held, 287,000 students participated from 98 countries across the world answered 38,904,275 questions. Then with the passing years, the number of students started increasing. In 2019 the World Maths Day event was combined with a social media competition, where students from all over the world were encouraged to dress up in a maths-themed outfit. This was done to celebrate maths. There were entries from many famous mathematicians.
