The beauty
she walks in beauty, like the night
of cloudless climes and starry skies;
and all that's best of dark and bright
meet in her aspect and her eyes:
thus mellowed to that tender light
which heaven to gaudy day denies.
one shade the more, one ray the less,
had half impaired the nameless grace
which waves in every raven tress,
or softly lightens o'er her face;
where thoughts serenely sweet express,
how pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
and on he cheek, and o'er that brow,
so soft, so calm, yet eloquent the smiles that win, the tints that glow,
but tell of days in goodness spent,
a mind at peace with all below,
a heart whose love is innocent!
constellations
my favorite color is navy blue,
the color of a child hood book of stars.
my father read it to me on the couch,
took me outside and showed me
the big dipper and the little dipper,
and how to find the north star.
all of this was right in front of our house.
we looked up into the sky until it looked black.
the said we spin without realizing it.
it told where we are in the milky way
but my father and i don't know how we got here.
neither of us mentions it.
we don't know how to do the math
on astronomical odds as big as that.
a heart of love
a heart of love is pure and kind.
it knows no evil ways.
it's jealous not, nor proud in mind.
its patience never fails.
a heart of love will suffer long
and bear all piercing pain.
it forgives and gives all life long,
waits not for any gain.
its manners good, a hopefull love,
so faithfull and so true.
its very root is from above,
the lord who sees us trough.
may each of us desire this heart,
a heart of love divine.
from christ-like love, let's not depart.
it's true love best defined.
