  • Fa-Hien became the first Chinese monk to visit India, searching for great Buddhists scriptures. He traveled, mainly by foot, at the age of 65 from Central China via  Dunhuang, Shenshen, & Khotan .and then across the Himalayas, to Peshawa & Gandhara.
  • At the beginning of the 5th century CE, Fa- Hein wrote a book on his travels that were full of early Buddhism narratives., the history and geography of many nations along the Silk Road. He wrote about cities in Middle India such as  Patliputra, Taxila,Kannauj & Mathura He also wrote about how Middle India people like Chinese people eat and dress. Patliputra has been declared a very thriving town as per his writings
  • For almost three years Fa-hien lived in Pataliputra studying Sanskrit. He mentioned that both the Hinayana and the Mahayana sects had separate sanghas, which offered education to students from all parts of India.
