solids have a fixed shape
liquids assume the shape of the container in which they are poured
gases also assume the shape of the container in which they are poured
solids cannot be compressed
liquids can be compressed but very little
gases can be compressed to a large extent
solids cannot flow
liquids flow from a higher level to a lower level whereas gases flow in all directions
intermolecular space is very low in solids
in liquids it is more
and in gases it is the maximum
